Catania Fontanarossa “Vincenzo Bellini” International airport is the nearest and most convenient airport, about 100 km from Messina.

It features many flights from major Italian cities such as Milan, Rome, Naples and Venice and several international direct flights from the main European cities.

From Catania airport you can reach Messina in about one hour and fifteen minutes via A18 motorway (direction Messina, exit MESSINA BOCCETTA).

Taxis cost approximately € 120,00 one way.

Private transfer by car/minivan can be arranged.

Direct buses from the airport to Messina bus terminal (Piazza Stazione/della Repubblica) are available every day. For more information see SAIS website.

Travel time is about one hour and a half (fast rides) or about two hours (other rides): Timetable SAIS Buses 2019.

The rate is € 9,20 if tickets are purchased at the ticket office or on the bus. Please note that rates may change.

Several rental car companies are available at Catania airport. We suggest booking in advance.

The A18 Catania-Messina motorway is the fastest and easiest way to travel to Messina. Travel time for the 110 km journey to Messina is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. The toll for the motorway is about 4 €.

By car

From Northern Italy, you can drive along the A1 motorway through Naples and Salerno; then from Salerno drive along the panoramic toll-free A3 motorway in the direction of Reggio Calabria. Taking the exit “Villa S. Giovanni – Sicilia”, you arrive at the port where frequent ferries connect the mainland to the city of Messina, Sicily 24 hours a day.
